How 'The Hunger Games' Got Cool

“Hunger Games money” should show up as a rap lyric in the next 30 days or so. The second installment of everyone’s favorite children-killing-children saga, Catching Fire, made $158 million in its first three days of release, the sixth-best opening of all time, behind only money-printing franchises like Harry Potter and The Dark Knight. But what’s more notable than the overall box is this: unlike the first film, whose opening-weekend audience skewed 71 percent female, Catching Fire’s patrons were only 59 percent female, a 12 percent increase in male patronage that can’t entirely be explained by the fact that the second edition is a better-made film.

Don't be sad it's Monday: We have new contemporaries!

Here are some newer contemporary and romantic suspense releases, compiled for you and HEA by some of our favorite authors (info provided by publishers and/or their websites).

CONTEMPORARY ROMANCE

Staying at Joe's by Kathy Altman (Harlequin Superromance). Allison Kincaid can make a great sales pitch. But showing up at Joe Gallahan's motel asking for a favor is her toughest challenge yet. A year ago they were more than just colleagues at a big PR firm. When work came between them, Joe put the blame on Allison…and his opinion hasn't changed.

Lancaster has a thirst-quenching riesling

Trying to pick my favorite white wine is like trying to pick my favorite cookie — it's nearly impossible. There's a full and buttery chardonnay, or a bright and earthy sauvignon blanc, even a light and fruity pinot grigio, among many others.
But, if pressed, I may be willing to settle on riesling as my favorite. I fell in love with riesling in New York's Finger Lakes wine region.

Barbecued Pulled Pork on a Charcoal Grill

Pulled pork is classic summertime party food: slow-cooked pork roast, shredded and seasoned, served on the most basic of hamburger buns (or sliced white bread), with just enough of your favorite barbecue sauce, a couple of dill pickle chips, and a topping of coleslaw. However, many barbecue procedures demand the regular attention of the cook for eight hours or more.
