Escaping the Heat in Art’s Fortress

CHANEL BALDWIN’S eyes sipped on that painting and only that painting, because it was what was available to her on this side of the money line.
On steaming afternoons for much of the season, Ms. Baldwin, who turned 16 on Thursday, parked herself after summer school at the Brooklyn Museum, a refugee seeking the asylum of air-conditioning.

Emerging Photographer: Ryan Page

This month, Photo Booth is starting a series of posts that will highlight the work of new talent we come across in our daily research and editing. For our inaugural post, we’re sharing a selection of Ryan Page’s photography. I came across Page’s work earlier this summer, through a promo he sent. I was attracted to the timeless quality in many of his images. Now based in Brooklyn, Page has been practicing photography since he bought a disposable Kodak at age thirteen.

Cool off at Coppa with pesce crudo

Chef Brandi Key's newest pesce crudo at Coppa makes the perfect foil to summer. The thin-sliced branzino she was using one night this week was as cool and light as could be, slippery with bright lemon olive oil and set off by small scoops of cucumber sorbet.

'Iron Man 3' deleted scene offers more of the Mandarin

So far, Iron Man 3 has been the biggest movie of 2013, and Sir Ben Kingsley turned in arguably the summer season's biggest bad-guy twist.
For those wanting more of his intriguing take on the comic-book supervillain Mandarin, the Blu-ray release of Iron Man 3 (out Sept. 24) features a deleted scene where the Mandarin communicates with one of his operatives before going on TV and delivering a creepy message to the world.

Stay cool while being healthy at a frutería

It's hot, and although the summer is almost over, the heat isn't going away anytime soon.
Experts urge people to drink plenty of water to keep hydrated to ward off heatstroke when temperatures get to the triple digits, but there's some other tasty ways to keep cool.
Summer is the best time to go eat at a frutería for some of the freshest fruit salads, fresh-squeezed lemonade or other fruit drinks. These Mexican fruit stands can be one of the best places to go anytime, especially during the hot summer months.

In scorching summer heat, dressing professionally while keeping cool requires an advanced style strategy. Billowy dresses and whisper weight trousers do the job, but women often neglect an equally chic option: shorts.

Korean Scarves That Really Are Cool

South Korea is feeling the heat again now that the rainy season is almost over. In its drive to save energy over the steamy summer months, the government is now handing out “cool scarves” to workers.
Developed by a small local apparel company, these scarves contain a refrigerant, which reacts with water and keeps the wearer cool for several hours.

Circulatory System Keeps Sunny Windows Cool

Big windows in the home are great. They provide a good view and let in lots of light. But they can also let in lots of heat from the sun and then trap it inside, turning your home into a greenhouse. In the summer, that can translate into higher energy bills from overuse of the air conditioner.

Cool Weather Hurting Summer Businesses

The cooler weather is certainly being felt by some businesses that revel in the heat. It was so cold over the weekend some water parks had to close.
This kind of weather in Chicago in July? It’s given brisk business a whole new meaning and it’s even worse at some other area businesses.
