Toms shoes announces U.S. giving program

It's an initiative you might call "red, white and shoe."
After seven years of giving globally, L.A.-based Toms shoes has announced it will begin giving at home, in the U.S.
The company, whose One for One business model donates a pair of shoes to someone in need for every pair it sells, aims to give 1 million pairs of shoes to children in the U.S. by the end of 2014.
New pairs of Toms shoes will be given to children in 35 states and access to eye care will be provided to children in three states, through sales of Toms eyewear.

Nature's Tattoos

A few years ago, I noticed a brownish mark on my face. Concerned that it may be something ominous, I went to the dermatologist. Anxiously, I pointed it out to the doctor, who took a minute to look at it before saying, "Oh Sweetie, that's just an age spot. We can just give you some cream to make it fade away." I am not sure which was more unsettling: the fact that this woman was my age (or younger) and was calling me "sweetie," or that I was getting "age spots."

The wonder years

When Cath Pirret and her husband Iain took their daughters Jessie, 10, and Holly, 7, to Britain earlier this year, it was a trip that was all about family and showing the girls where their parents grew up. But there were also some key sightseeing opportunities, such as Stonehenge, Hadrian's Wall and Tate Modern, before heading to Paris to see the Mona Lisa and Venus de Milo.
